Last Metal Romance, Garrett's 15th and final case, arrives in print, eBook, and audio — and all fourteen earlier novels get their first English audio editions.

Garrett’s readers have waited thirteen years for this case, and listeners have waited thirty-nine. These agreements take care of both issues.”

ROCKVILLE, MD, UNITED STATES, August 19, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Arc Manor recently acquired paper, eBook, and audio rights to the fifteenth and final novel, “Last Metal Romance,” in Glen Cook’s iconic Garrett, P.I. series. The publisher also obtained audio rights to all fourteen previous novels, which have never appeared in English-language audio. The two agreements, negotiated via Russell Galen of Scovil Galen Ghosh Literary Agency, not only give the series its ending, but also, finally, a voice that fans have waited decades for.

The detective made his first appearance in 1987 in “Sweet Silver Blues” and never looked back. The series follows a hard-boiled private investigator through TunFaire, a fantasy city rich with all sorts of fantastical elements, and of course, mysteries for Garrett to solve.

Garrett is a freelance investigator in this city where clients and suspects come in every species, and the money is never clean. He works alongside the Dead Man, his long-deceased telepathic partner, in books that set hard-boiled mystery inside a fantasy world.

Much like Agatha Christie’s Hercule Poirot in his final case, “Curtain,” “Last Metal Romance” is a farewell to an iconic detective (after nearly forty years) that sees him older and more subdued. He is married, and almost “respectable,” and is leading a comfortable life as a wise confidential informer of the Crown Prince himself.

But when the Prince asks him to keep an eye on a woman under the name Morose Spirit, things start falling apart, not least Garrett himself, as someone starts taking him apart, memory, body, luck… one curse at a time.

Despite his previous comments, Cook has confirmed to the publisher that this will be the last novel, hence the title (Last Metal Romance).

Like all books in the series, this one can be read as a stand-alone adventure.

“Garrett’s readers have waited thirteen years for this case, and listeners have waited thirty-nine,” said Shahid Mahmud, publisher of Arc Manor. “These agreements take care of both issues: the final novel in every format, and the complete series in English-language audio for the first time.”

Paper and eBook rights for the first fourteen books remain with Penguin. Arc Manor plans to commission brand-new artwork for the audio versions. Douglas Ricketts has been selected as the narrator for the series for the first set of books.

Readers who have followed this detective for decades get a chance to say their final farewell, and audio fans finally get to listen to this iconic series.
